A Closer Look at the Cougars
Published: Wednesday, August 30, 2006 BFP

Coach: Marty Richards (third season)

Last year: 6-4, lost to Otter Valley in Division IV semifinals

Key returnees: Greg Pinette, sr., rb/lb; Brendan Trapani, jr., ot/lb; Jack Dubuque, sr., cb/qb; Connor Gallagher, jr., fb/lb; Matt Parisi, jr., ss/rb

Key newcomers: Nate Dolan, jr., qb/fs; Markus Shinosky, jr., de/og; Kyle Kotulak, sr., ot/dt.

Outlook: The Cougars are heading into only their third varsity season and have only nine seniors, but they could be in the hunt for another playoff spot. The defense looks solid and the offensive line, while young, should be good when it jells. Execution will be key. MMU lost 13 seniors to graduation and the offensive side of the ball took the bigger hit. Richards greeted 56 players in the program and plans to carry about 29 on varsity. There are 10 sophomores who will have plenty of chances to prove themselves.
